Valentine’s Day Mixtape for a Jazzy Candle-Lit Night In

It's Mixtape Season and the weather outside demands a cozy, romantic night-in. Here's a curated Jazz playlist to set the ambiance and get you right in the mood!

Some of these pieces are sentimental, symbolic additions that have been gifted to me by different artists hidden in books, films etc. I hope you start this Valentine's Day filled with love, and you surely will when you give this playlist a listen.

Picture this: A chilly evening, the wind softly whispers outside your window, and you light that candle or dim those lights. The ambiance is just right, the mood is set, and all that's missing is the perfect soundtrack to accompany this intimate scene.

Enter our curated jazz playlist, intentionally crafted to elevate your Valentine's Day experience. Have a lovely Valentine everyone 🙂

Here's how the music came into my life-

I found about the music of Coleman Hawkins in a Murakami book, Short Stories in After the Quake. One of the characters in a short story talks about Hawkins, -

"Follow Coleman Hawkins' improvised lines very carefully. He is using them to tell us something. Pay very close attention. He is telling us the story of the free spirit that is doing everything it can to escape from within him. That same kind of spirit is inside me, inside you. There-you can hear it, I'm sure: the hot breath, the shivering heart."

Immediately after finishing the story, I fell in love with Hawkins' music.

Likewise, some of the other pieces are from two of Paul Thomas Anderson's films - Phantom Thread and Licorice Pizza. Beautiful beautiful films!

Here are some beautiful shots from both films by Paul Thomas Anderson as cinematographer himself!

This Valentine's Day, give yourself the gift of music, and let our jazz playlist be the soundtrack to your romantic night in. Trust us, you won't regret it.
